MILES & ROSEMARY Survived the QUAKE!!!

Happy Spring to you all! Trust you are having a wonderful spring. This is the first newsletter since the one right after the EARTHQUAKE in Haiti. As usual there is so much to tell. We apologize for being so long, but we have a new development that has been in the works for quite sometime, and we are finally ready to talk about it. Look near the end of the newsletter for this BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

In our last newsletter I talked about the physical experience of living through the earthquake. But I didn’t share about the emotional & spiritual experience. In the months since then, we have had time to reflect and so I will try to express in words what went on during the earthquake IN me (Rosemary). People have asked both of us if we were scared. We can both honestly say we were not. I joke and say that I’ve never had the good sense to be scared of much, but that is not entirely true either. We had no idea that over 200,000 people were dying at the time.

While I was sitting on the floor, being buried with things that were falling off the shelves, (see our last newsletter) I kept saying JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, over and over again. Each time I said JESUS, it was a prayer for help in this situation. God showed up in a big way and became my “ever present help in time of need”. Miles then shouted, “ROSEMARY, GET UP”. I really believe that if he had asked me if I was alright, I’d have said, “no” and I’d have never made it out of there.

In John 5:2-8, there were sick and disabled people lying by the pool of Bethesda, waiting for an angel of the Lord to disturb the water, and the first person to step into the water afterwards, was healed. Jesus asked a man, “Would you like to get well”? The man said, “I have no one to help me get into the pool”. Instead of Jesus feeling sorry for him, he said, “GET UP”, it was not a request, it was a command. He could have said, “Oh poor you” and the man would have stayed where he was and not been healed, but instead He ordered him to, “GET UP”.

I was sitting there in the earthquake saying JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, each time I said JESUS it was a prayer. I was waiting for God to stop the shaking and help me get up. God heard my prayer and got Miles to order me to GET UP.
To the man at the pool, Jesus then said, “Pick up your mat and walk”.
To me he had Miles say, “Run”. God always answers our prayers, sometimes with a whisper, other times with an order. We thank God everyday that He heard our prayer and brought us through. God doesn’t ask us to do anything impossible, He just asks us to do what we can do, and for me in that situation I just had to GET UP.

Since the earthquake we have been very busy. We have had so many new opportunities to share about Haiti. We (BLAIR HOPE) have been able to raise more funds more quickly than we have ever before. You, our supporters contributed over $17,000 in the month after the quake, when the government would match it, which turned into $34,000. HALLELUJAH! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! We were able to send funds to Haiti, which helped to send 2 containers of Food with about 1 million meals and buy 2 vehicles to transport the food to the people. (Remember the other truck was crushed)

There are some awesome things going on in the spiritual realm. There is a revival going on in Haiti!!! Hallelujah! On Feb. 12th, one month after the initial earthquake, President Rene Preval cancelled Mardi Gras. This is a BIG yearly Voodoo celebration. We have been there when it takes place and it is full of all kinds of evil. It celebrates the Crucifixion of Jesus without mentioning the resurrection. There is non-stop partying and parades in the streets for about a week, with drunkenness, people portraying demons going around pulling others into the parade. If they refuse to join in they can be arrested.

This year the president cancelled Mardi Gras!…and he did something else that was even BIGGER! He called 3 days of NATIONAL PRAYER & FASTING in it’s place. He even led the country in Prayer. Over 1 million people gathered in front of the flattened Presidential Palace and prayed and fasted for 3 full days and nights (to find out more type Haiti President Prays on Internet Explorer.) Over 3000 people made commitments to Jesus Christ, with 101 those being Voodoo Priests. These are confirmed first time commitments, Hallelujah!

Prayer and Fasting of this type was held all over the country with 100’s of people in virtually every community crying out to God in repentance. We have heard reports of little churches that had 25 to 50 members, with 150 new converts. Praise the Lord! That is what it is all about!

In the natural, the needs in Haiti are still so BIG. This country was already the poorest in the western hemisphere, now it is even poorer. Millions are still living & sleeping outside as their homes were destroyed.

NOW for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
Things have been growing so fast in Haiti and many people are asking to come to Haiti to help in many different parts the re-construction process. Due to this there is need for someone to live there to coordinate all this. That is where we (Miles & Rosemary) come in. We are returning to Haiti in September, and will be working closely with Bob Davisson’s organization LIFELINE HAITI.

We will be booking and hosting teams, and getting photos of the children for their sponsors. We expect to host as many as 100 teams in the next year. This will be a huge help with the cost of running the schools, orphanage etc. People will be able to come and stay for $30/ night, and by staying for 12 nights, they will provide the cost of a child’s education for 1 whole year. We don’t want to be a burden on LIFELINE HAITI and so we are raising our own support. If you would like to help us with this please contact us. . We will be working continuously this summer to raise this support and will be contacting many of you personally and visiting your churches. We hope to come and share more about the earthquake experience and our passion to continue working for the Lord in Haiti.

PRAY 2 Cor. 1:10 God has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On Him we have set our hope that He will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.
